Lancaster City Council Chooses GOSS Content
Discover how Lancaster City Council is updating its digital presence with the GOSS CMS platform to deliver an accessible, flexible and customer-focused online experience.
Lancaster City Council is set to update the way it delivers digital content with the adoption of the GOSS Content CMS platform. Joining the GOSS client community in early 2026, the council will use the platform to update its website, improve accessibility, and introduce greater flexibility in how information and services are presented to residents and visitors.
Serving a population of approximately 145,000 people, Lancaster City Council covers a diverse area that includes the city of Lancaster, the towns of Morecambe, Carnforth and Heysham, and parts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and designated National Landscapes. As a non-metropolitan district council, Lancaster provides a wide range of essential services across both urban and rural communities.
The council's existing content management system had been in place for many years, and Lancaster City Council identified the need for a new CMS that would support robust accessibility standards and deliver an updated look and feel across its digital estate. In addition, the council required a solution that would allow the creation of dedicated subsites for commercial assets such as its leisure centre and entertainment venues, rather than managing these as pages within the main council website.
Following a competitive procurement process through the CCS G-Cloud 14 Framework, GOSS was selected as the preferred supplier to deliver the new solution. With GOSS Content, Lancaster City Council will be provided with configurable approval workflows, content scheduling, and powerful granular user management to ensure that only appropriate content is published and accessed by authorised users. The new website will be modern, fully responsive across devices, and compliant with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards, using GOSS best-practice design themes tailored to the council's requirements.
The solution also includes the GOSS Integration Engine, enabling the council to connect with a wide range of third-party systems and supporting future digital transformation ambitions. Lancaster City Council will be able to develop and manage multiple subsites within the same platform, providing greater flexibility for promoting services and income-generating facilities.
By joining the GOSS client community of more than 60 UK local authorities, Lancaster City Council will also benefit from an active and collaborative network of peers, sharing best practices and driving continuous improvement in digital service delivery.
We're delighted to welcome Lancaster City Council to the GOSS client community and look forward to supporting their mission to deliver accessible, modern and customer-focused digital services for all who live, work, and visit the district.
