GOSS launches new web technology

A brand new technology that will revolutionise the way public access sites like YouTube operate has been developed by Innovative IT company GOSS.

The new technology, iCM ZOOM (mobile Content Management), allows people to upload videos, images, sounds or text directly to a website using any mobile device including Smartphones, mobile phones and PDAs via SMS, MMS or email.

The system has been developed by GOSS and is now being piloted on a site in Plymouth called Making Plymouth Great (www.plymgr8.co.uk). People can send in videos, images, sounds or text to express their positive feelings about the city. They can send in their contributions using SMS, MMS, email, or can go to the website and upload in the traditional way.

Using SMS or MMS from a mobile device enables people to contribute immediately without having to register with the site, so it's quick, easy and contributions can be seen almost instantly.

Richard George, managing director of GOSS, said: "We think this technology will revolutionise the way public access sites operate. iCM ZOOM gives consumers a real online voice.

"For the first time people are empowered to show examples of just how they feel about products, services and their environment, instantly from wherever they are. This could be anything from a poor holiday experience to a local traffic jam and you can comment on the positive as well as problems."

The pilot site is being run to promote Plymouth in the run up to Plymouth Enterprise Week (13 - 17th November) and GOSS is being partnered in the trial by The Plymouth Evening Herald and TwoFour Television, which plans to send the content of the site into space as a digital time capsule.

People can register at www.plymgr8.co.uk to email or upload contributions, or can text 'stuff' together with their contribution to 07725 202020.

People are free to send in what they like. The site is monitored and content is removed if it is deemed offensive or unsuitable.

Richard George said: "This new technology has a whole raft of applications and is taking the web a stage further. It combines the power of a content management system with mobile technology. Our mobile content management technology can be set up on any company or local authority website very quickly, giving a real boost to any area where speed and ease of communication is important"
